Welcome to the Windows 95/98/NT shareware version of the Ultra Lingua French-English dictionary.
WHAT DOES IT INCLUDE?
* Over 250,000 indexed items, including over a hundred thousand translations, and tens of thousands of secondary entries.
* Indications of literary, slang, and vulgar meaning, and hints for usage (including synonyms, accompanying prepositions, general categories, and more).
* A reverse translation feature, which helps show how various choices translate back into the departure language (an essential tool for zeroing in on the right word or expression).
* A find feature that allows you to search for word fragments and letter patterns.
* A comprehensive on-line grammar reference for both French and English.
* Tables showing translations of numbers, expressions of time, geographical terms, as well as samples of correspondence.
* Grammatical notes concerning irregular forms for thousands of entries (plurals, past participles, future stems, etc.).
* Compatibility with SAPI text-to-speech engines, so you can check the pronunciation of words and phrases. (Speech engines must be acquired separately.)
* A History feature, allowing you to retrace the steps of your lexical wanderings.
* Drag-and-Drop support. You can drag a word from another application into Ultra Lingua to obtain the translation, or you can drag a word from Ultra Lingua into other applications.
* Fast searches, using very little memory.
WHAT'S NEW IN VERSION 3.0?
* Thousands of new dictionary entries.
* The option to make Ultra Lingua a "floating window," and thus visible and available even when you are working in a different application.
* The option to add new words and expressions to the dictionary.
* A toolbar that gives you one-click access to many commonly used features.
* A search system using wildcard characters, so you can search for word fragments or letter patterns.
* A tool that will translate numbers (e.g. 133) into text ("cent trente-trois" and "one hundred (and) thirty-three").
* A streamlined help system.
* Much better compression of the dictionary, so downloading Ultra Lingua now takes about 30% less time than it used to.
* Support for context menus. Right-click on a selected word to see a menu of common actions.
HOW DO YOU INSTALL AND USE IT?
1. If you have a previous version of Ultra Lingua installed on your computer, you should uninstall it first by using the Add/Remove Programs control panel, which you can find by selecting Control Panels from the Settings section of the Windows Start menu.
2. Run the installer (install.exe) and follow its instructions.
3. Launch Ultra Lingua by selecting it from the Programs section of the Windows Start menu. Alternatively, you can open the folder in which you installed the program (probably C:\Program Files\Ultra Lingua) and double-click on ultralingua.exe.
4. Ultra Lingua is straight-forward to use, but to learn more about its features,
check out the on-line manual under the Help menu.
HOW DO YOU UNINSTALL IT?
You can uninstall Ultra Lingua in one of two ways. You can use the Add/Remove Programs control panel (look for it in the Windows Start menu under Settings and Control Panels), or you can double-click uninstall.exe in the Ultra Lingua folder. If you want to know the gory details of what the installer installs and what the uninstaller uninstalls, read the install.txt file.
HOW DO YOU PAY FOR IT?
How nice of you to ask. The trial period lasts 30 days, after which Ultra Lingua will no longer function. Once you register Ultra Lingua and enter your registration key, the program will stop reminding you to register.
Ultra Lingua is shareware, and it costs $29.95 for single-user licenses. The easiest way to order is to choose the "Register Now" button in the initial screen or to select "Register now" in the Help menu. You can also register on-line at http://order.kagi.com/?LKS.
